Coaching Programme for NQSWs: Home visits

INTRODUCTION:

This session is primarily for Newly Qualified Social Workers, as an opportunity to support their confidence to practice post-qualifying. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from practice examples and experiences of an expert Practitioner on how to prepare for a home visit, how to engage with children and their families and how to reflect on what was observed during the visit.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

By the end of the course, delegates will learn how to:

  • Discuss how best to engage with children and families;
  • Think about how to ensure children’s voices are heard during visits;
  • Reflect on the key objectives of home visits;

 

ABOUT THE SPEAKER(S):

Laurence Chester is an experienced Independent Social Worker and front-line Practitioner who is committed to ensuring that the highest standards are consistently applied to social work practice. Laurence has worked in front line, senior management and other leadership roles in the public and private/community sector for over 25 years. 

With extensive experience in developing, managing and leading services, as well as leading change across multi-agency and multi-disciplinary contexts, Laurence is passionate about personal and professional development. He brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to the training he delivers. 

Laurence has been involved in the teaching and training of others as well as working directly with children and families. He has advised senior government ministers and represented the UK government in inter-state meetings concerning the welfare of children.
